Valley Fresh Foods 100% Cage-Free Eggs in California, Oregon and Washington
Cage-Free Hens
We have been busy …. our Valley Fresh Foods egg farms in Washington and Oregon officially completed their cage-free conversion in December 2023. California has been 100% cage-free since 2021.
If you don’t know much about cage-free eggs, review the points outlined below. These eggs come from hens that are free to roam either in large barns or tall aviaries with lots of room to participate in natural chicken behavior.
The color of the egg depends on the breed of hen. White hens, usually Leghorns, lay white eggs. Brown hens, usually Rhode Island Reds, lay brown eggs.
The cage-free living environments have lots of enrichments for hens:
● A variety of different perches and private nesting areas
● Litter access on the floor for dust bathing — hens love this!
● Lots of room for socializing with the many hens in the flock
● Hens have easy access to fresh water and healthy grains for optimal health — this, in turn, produces the best-tasting and most nutritious eggs.
